At least nine people were injured after an escalator fire broke out at John F. Kennedy International Airport Wednesday, officials said.
Shortly after 7 a.m. local time FDNY received a report of smoke and evacuated Terminal 8 due to the smoke condition, the New York City Fire Department said.
Four of the nine people injured were transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Port Authority of NY and NJ. Officials said all injuries were minor.
"Flight operations at Terminal 8 have been impacted. Please check with your airline to determine the status of your flight," the airport said in a post on X.
Nearly 1,000 people were bused to other parts of the terminal where operations were ongoing, officials said.

Over 160 flights delayed at JFK
More than 160 flights at JFK were delayed as of 11 a.m., according to flight tracker FlightAware. The disruption comes as Delta Airlines is still recovering from a technology outage that led to thousands of flights cancelations.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
